Comparing clinic fees

This table compares clinic fees, the money paid to the clinic for consultations and prescriptions. Medication costs are separate and depend on what you are prescribed.

When comparing clinics, consider the total picture:

• Subscription or membership plans can reduce costs significantly if you stay with a clinic long-term, but check whether you are locked in and what happens if you need to switch.
• Access schemes may reduce or eliminate fees for people on certain benefits, students or veterans. Ask the clinic directly about eligibility criteria before booking.
• Transfer schemes may offer reduced onboarding costs if you are already a patient at another clinic.
• The cheapest clinic fees do not necessarily mean the lowest overall cost. Medication pricing, pharmacy choice, delivery charges, and the number of appointments your condition requires all affect your total spend.

Costs outside the clinic fee

• Medication costs (flower, oil, cartridges, edibles, topicals): these vary by product, pharmacy and prescribed amount and are charged separately by the dispensing pharmacy
• Delivery charges from the pharmacy (some clinics include free delivery, others do not)
• Additional consultations if your treatment changes, you need extra support, or you have a complex case requiring more frequent follow-ups
• Cost of obtaining your medical records or Summary Care Record from your GP (usually free but some GP practices charge)
• Device costs (vaporiser, accessories, cleaning supplies)
• Prescription change fees (some clinics charge if you need to amend a prescription between appointments)
• Split-delivery fees (if your prescription is dispensed by more than one pharmacy)
• Travel costs if any appointments are in person (most clinics now use video consultations, but not all)
• Cancelation or missed-appointment fees (check each clinic’s policy)

Medication costs paid to the pharmacy

In almost all UK medical cannabis clinics, medication is prescribed privately and dispensed by a pharmacy. You pay the pharmacy directly for your medicine. Prices vary widely:

• Flower: Typically £5 to £14 per gram, with most products in the £6 to £9 range. A 10-gram pack may cost £50 to £130.
• Oil: Typically £30 to £200 per bottle, depending on strength, volume, and formulation (CBD, THC, or balanced).
• Cartridges and extracts: Prices vary significantly. Not all clinics prescribe these forms.

Questions to ask before booking

Beyond the fees in the table above, we recommend asking these questions before committing to a clinic:

1. What is the total cost of the first year, including all expected appointments and repeat prescriptions?
2. Are there any additional fees you have not mentioned (prescription changes, split deliveries, letters, cancelations)?
3. Can I choose my pharmacy, and does that affect any fees?
4. What happens to my subscription or membership if I need to pause treatment?
5. How often will I need follow-up appointments after the first year?
6. Do you offer a reduced rate if I am on benefits, a student, or a veteran?
7. Is the initial consultation refunded if the doctor decides medical cannabis is not suitable for me?
8. Are appointment prices guaranteed for a set period, or can they change?
