Glossary term
Cannabis oil: Cannabis oil is a liquid formulation containing cannabinoid ingredients, usually measured in drops or millilitres. It may be taken by mouth or under the tongue depending on the prescription and product instructions.
Why this term matters
One of the most common patient-facing dosage forms.
UK medical cannabis context
NHS public guidance explicitly distinguishes prescribed products from shop-bought CBD or hemp oils.
What not to assume
Products sold as “CBD oil” in shops are not the same thing as prescribed cannabis-based medicines.
Careful wording: Avoid using “oil” as though it automatically means legal, prescribed or clinically evaluated.
